In Nanchang

It is 6:30am Monday...Melissa here this morning. We are back to creeping by filters through a set up Ariel showed us. Thanks A! Unfortunately, no pics this way. We will have to try through CJ for pics. So, here was the scoop on yesterday. We signed our paperwork with the red thumb prints upon arrival (those of you who've been here know what I mean). This was cool as it was also a Happy Father's Day for Robert to add a new son to our family. Matt was pretty happy to see us, which I think amazed the officials and our guide. They kept telling us how well cared for and verbal he was and that he was much more of an open boy than most. The lady from New Day was there as well and said he had traveled fairly well on the train, slept OK and then napped when they got to Nanchang from 8am-12pm. I know his response to us is due to the awesome preparation by all the folks at New Day. My appreciation for all they have done goes without words!!!!!!!!

So, after paperwork we went for a bite to eat which was pretty hilarious. I'm sure we broke some rules as we ended up in a much fancier restaurant than we intended. Matt is a voracious eater and attacked his food with vigor. His choices of utensils were either the large ceramic Chinese soup spoon or this little tiny fork, neither of which he was familiar. I thought he did great, but we received lots of stares.

We tried to walk around the streets a bit, but they are not very stroller friendly. If you can picture a city of 3 million, plus reckless drivers, high rise buildings, and crowded spaces...you sort of get the pictures. The geography here is somewhat mountainous, very humid and mostly rice farmers which bring the outer city limits to 6 million. They are having major floods here so things are not going well for the rice farmers.

Well, Rob informs me it's time to skype...of which we have been having difficulty too. Please pray for Matt's adjustment to 24/7 with us. He is doing so well, he is so brave, but sleep was really hard for him last night. It broke our hearts for him as he cried long and hard for "mama" and finally exhausted himself and fell asleep. We know this is a good thing, as he is grieving for the loss of his family...but it is still so hard to feel him hurt so. Thank-you for your prayers. This week here will be a major milestone.
